What will my clients see when they pay with Stripe? (U.S. Customers only)
Updated yesterday

Once Stripe has been enabled as a payment processor, your customers will see the following payment options:

  • Credit & Debit Cards

  • Bank Transfer from a US bank (also known as ACH payments)

  • Digital Wallets (Apple Pay & Google Pay)

  • Stripe Link (securely saves your customer’s payment method for easy future payments)

Each payment method will incur a different fee. When customers pay through credit or debit cards, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, the fee is 3.49% of the transaction. When they pay through bank transfer, the fee is 1%, capped at $15. Fees can be paid by you or passed to your customer. Learn how to pass fees to your customers.

You can toggle payment options and processors on and off for different invoices in the edit invoice section. You can toggle these options on and off in your settings or on your edit invoice screen. Learn how to toggle payment options.

When your customers receive an invoice with Stripe payment options enabled, it will look something like this:

Note that in the above example, PayPal is also turned on as an option. Check out this guide on how to offer both options on your invoices.

How do my customers pay?

To pay, your customers can use their desktop or mobile device. They can access your invoice by email or by scanning the QR code on a printed invoice to pay online.

When the invoice is open, they will see all available payment options. In the below example from a mobile invoice, the customer has selected “card” as their payment method. All they need to do is enter their details just like they would with any other online payment.

In this next example, the customer has selected “US bank account” instead of “card.”

All payments made with Stripe are secured by Stripe. As stipulated in their security documentation, “Users trust Stripe with their sensitive data and rely on us to be good custodians of their customers’ data as well. As a payments infrastructure company, our security posture continually evolves to meet the rigorous standards of the global financial industry.” Click here for more information on how Stripe secures payments for you and your customers.

What does it look like for my customers when they pay through Stripe Link?

When your customers pay using card or direct bank transfer, Stripe will ask if they want to save their information for one-click checkouts in future. To save their information, Stripe requires their email address and a one-time verification code.

When their payment information is saved, it will automatically be available for future payments. This means to pay, they simply have to select the payment method and tap “pay now.”

Here’s what your clients will see when using Stripe Link for their card payments. Please note, the process is visually similar for saving their bank transfer details.

First, they need to enter in their email.

Once their email is entered, Stripe will say “Your link account will be created after payment is complete”.

When your client pays, all they have to do is enter in the email address they previously used, and all their payment details will pop up.
